I’ve been working on ways to make packaging and shipping orders from BCB more earth-friendly. My current concern is the paper I send along with each order: invoice, yarn tags, promotional material. Everything I print in the office is printed on 100% recycled center and all incoming paper is recycled. I’m looking into some plantable (yes, you plant them-they grow!) promtional material, produced by Bloomin’.
But what happens to the materials when it reaches the customer?
Well, it’s my hope that they recycle the packaging and paper. After some research, I found a way to make it easier:
Earthlink911.org
Just enter your zip code in the box and the site provides information about local recycling centers and programs.
How great is that? On the Fall update of the site (Sept 15th), we’ll have the search box on the site, on the about page and link page.

I don’
t know what “box” I should be providing my zip code to, so I’ll just put it here, then ask my question.
Zip: 19530
I have styrofoam that I want to dispose of sensibly. Unfortunately, no one around here (as far as I have been told) will accept it, other than Waste Management, who will simply land-fill it.
If that’s my only option, so be it…I guess. I certainly hope not, but… What a shame!
Most of the styrofoam I come in contact with is accepted by package shipping places, so I usually don’t have this problem. They will not accept this stuff, however, as it is too coarse for their needs.
Do you have any other option besides land-fill?
